The interaction of simple geometric forms (in this case lines) to produce new forms and patterns has been a focus of my work. I started exploring this series on the press to see what kinds of patterns my lead type ornaments could produce. Then I created digital versions of the type in Affinity Illustrator to make it easier experiment and build intuition for how to set the type to produce desired effects in the print. I printed this piece on a Vandercook No. 4 proof press with a rotary chase made by Dry Inc. and 36-point lead type ornaments cast by Swamp Press. The type was rotated 15 degrees after each printing pass (24 passes total).
