Description of Process for this Submission
This letterpress prints speaks to relationships affected by book banning in libraries. So many of the most frequently banned and challenged books represent marginalized voices sharing important narratives and diverse stories. I deconstructed a banned book and used pages as inclusions in the handmade paper for the prints. I set the American Library Association list of the 2022 Most Challenged Books in Monotype Outline type on printed it on the first layer. On the next layers, I printed Lego grid patterns to create the markings for the sashiko woven mending patterns. Last, I hand stitched the mending pattern on top. This print references textile processes such as quilting, embroidery and mending for community healing.
