This piece was letterpress/relief printed with Lego flat or “finishing” tiles, from 3 half-sheet arrangements. Blue, yellow, and magenta forms were printed “work & whirl” from each of the 4 paper edges with the intention of overlapping and building values of translucent inks within one color layer. The printing stages are systematic and while the effects of the final composition can only be loosely previewed, squares, circles, and an unexpected composite form vocabulary grows from this process. My fascination with geometry and mathematical systems drives me to work in this manner and I have become happily lost tracing both obvious and more subtly suggested forms in the final pieces. Depending on the viewer, this print may suggest quilting or weaving, tiling patterns, ornamental letterpress, or sacred geometry.
